Research shows, “that in the United stated 275 competitions (Karnes & Riley, 1996) have been developed in every academic area and in many non-academic areas targeting elementary to high school youngsters. American teachers use these competitions to challenge their gifted students (Campbell 1998), (Campbell et al., 2000).” The competitions are noted below:
The Future Problem Solvers has three level of competition are grades 4-12, the problems require creativity and imaginations, more importantly, successful teamwork collaboratively to solve problems.
The Odyssey of the Mind has five problems which are presented each year to the candidates and also require creativity and problem-solving. The topics range from literature analysis to engineering

The competitions are held in all fifty states and Puerto Rico. National meetings are held for competitions with students’ grades 9-12 and finalist are awarded scholarships.
The International Science and Engineering Fair conducts research paper competitions with local school fairs, regional, state and national fairs grades 9-12. This is the largest research paper competition in the country.

National Merit Exam is a national competition and involves testing with select groups of high school students. Finalists receive commendations and scholarships.
Study of Mathematically Precocious Youth- (SMPY) national competitions tests seventh- grade students with the Scholastic Aptitude Test Math. The most talented math students participate in summer programs to help cultivate their talents. (Goldstein & Wagner, 1993),(Campbell et al., 2000).
Olympiad Competitions (math, physics, and chemistry) is a national testing program. The finalist in this program participates in the international competition.
According to Statistical Abstract of the United States, 1997 revealed a total of 2,226, 436 high school students participated in the competitions noted above.(Campbell et al.,
