Throughout the years, The Odyssey by Homer has influenced much of our modern day literature and life, which is why it should be continued to be taught in schools. The main theme of The Odyssey is the idea of a veteran returning home after a long war. The story hints at what it is like to be in the military today, and the horrors that retired soldiers have to live with. Also, the fear of what it takes to return back home. The tale of Odysseus describes the hardships of how war can change somebody, which gives the true meaning of how a soldier can feel dislocated when returning home.
