I can compare the Odyssey to the Illiad because they are both epics about the Mycenean or the Bronze age. The Iliad tells the final chapter in the story of two major Bronze Age “Greek” alliances battling each other. The Illiad is also a turning-road kind of epic and like the Odyssey, is very long. It ended when the Greeks defeated the Trojans while the Odyssey concentrated on how Odysseus can go back to his family, while his family struggles after the war. Both are seminal, history-shaping events even though they are protected by different gods, all gods belong to the same pantheon which is the Greek gods.
