Odysseus and his crew have won the battle of Troy, and tries to make their way home. They encounter many obstacles and all but Odysseus succumb to death. Odysseus faces many challenges until successfully returning to his home and family after twenty long years.
This epic starts off with a rather unorthodox timeline, it not only begins ten years after the battle of Troy, where all Greek heros but Odysseus have already returned to their households, but also in the middle of the plot. Odysseus is a Greek hero and king of Ithaca, he is known for his cunning wits and bravery. He is also the leader of a crew of men, and has a wife, Penelope, and son, Telemachus, who await for Odysseus 's return. Athena, the goddess of love and war, is permitted by Zeus, the god of lightning, to travel to Ithaca and speak with Telemachus about his father. Once they arrive at Ithaca, and with Odysseus on land, the boat turns into stone as prophesied earlier. Odysseus is greeted by Athena, once again disguised, but he sees through it this time. Athena is pleased with his wits and helps him devise a plan to punish the wicked suitors in his home, she also disguises Odysseus so he won’t be recognized. Athena finds Telemachus and tells him that he must hurry home, she also tells him of the plan to ambush the suitors. Telemachus returns to Ithaca, and meets his father, he is overjoyed and weeping. Penelope learns of her son 's return and announces it to the entire palace, when the suitors hear this they devise another plan to kill
