One beautiful morning, a stranger came into town, he had a shaggy blonde beard and wore a brown tunic. I was wearing my sea-green tunic with a light brown shawl, my golden curls fell to my hip. When the stranger looked into my crystal clear blue eyes, I knew he was a storyteller. He reminded me of my brother who had gone to Athens to fight in the war. I was going to go inside and tell Ma, when the storyteller yelled “Eleni! It’s me!” I turned around and realized the man was my brother! I ran to him screaming at the top of my lungs “Adelfós!”, adelfós means brother in greek. I ran to him and hugged him as tight as an anaconda squeezing its prey.

Later that day, we ate vradinó (vradinó means dinner is greek), we prepared avgolemono (A greek

Macarius stood on a wood crate said “One night, Athena had dídymes kóres (twin daughters in greek), Athena didn’t tell Poseidon that they were his daughters too and raised daughters surreptitiously. When other gods asked about the her daughters, she would tell them she was taking of them temporarily. On her daughters’ third birthday, Athena began to notice how different her daughters were. Nyssa was rude, stubborn and starting to show a bit of evilness; on the other hand, Zelandra was kind, graceful and developing a love for magic. A couple of days after their third birthday, Athena left the girls to play while she checked on the mortals (humans), In those five minutes Nyssa grabbed one of her mother’s swords and cut off Zelandra’s foot. Athena made it back right on time and called Asclepius who healed her foot back, but could not forgive Nyssa for her evilness and sent.…” As my brother kept talking, I zoned out to look at the moon but by now it had disappeared. My brother continued “ .....and forgotten. Athena made Zelandra forget she had a twin sister and until now she didn't know. Zelandra heard her Mother talking about Nyssa and confronted her. Once or twice a year she signals her sister to come back, a red moon for the blood from her foot and then the moon disappears for her gone foot. Zelandra is the goddess of the universe, magic and the moon.” One of the villagers, …show more content…
A strong man grabbed him and yelled “Let’s sacrifice him to the moon!” I shrieked “No! No! No! My adelfós is innocent!” The man kicked me to the ground and spit in my face. I searched for my parents and realized they were being tormented on too. I felt so alone and dismal that I started to cry. The villagers were about to burn my brother when Zelandra flew in, she wore a loose free-flowing dress with gold, black and two different shades of blue. She had a white owl on her shoulder that seemed to wink at me. Zelandra had wavy black/brown hair, her periwinkle eyes twinkled when she saw my brother, her sun-kissed skin shone in front of the fire. She quickly grabbed my brother and flew away, as she flew away the moon

Hospitality, the friendly and generous reception and entertainment of guests, visitors, or strangers, is very important to the gods and goddesses. It is just as important for the guest to honor the host as it is for the host to honor the guest. A violation of the expected treatment of a guest or host during ancient Greek times would often result in violence.…

The psyche or self as depicted in Jane Harrison’s Themis is a ritual self which focuses on the collective identity of a tribe. Opposite of this self, the psyche or self as depicted Homer’s The Odyssey is a self which focuses on the individual. In Themis these collective selves centered around a ritualistic society are demonstrated by the way society connected with their gods through rituals which focused on initiation of young men into the tribe, a collective emotion, and the tribe’s connection to the earth. The epic self which appears in The Odyssey, moves away from the collective self and instead focuses on the individual.…
