The Odd Couple Research Paper

Decent Essays
The TV show that I feel most accurately represents my life is the Odd Couple. The Odd Couple takes place in an upscale apartment in New York City, college friends and new roommates Felix Unger and Oscar Madison are both recently divorced and looking for a fresh start. Felix the neat freaked news reporter and Oscar the sloppy sports talk show host, struggle to live in harmony as they deal with their chaotic love lives and their constant disputing. But through all their struggles they manage to keep life in check with their hilarious personalities and late night poker games.

Although their exciting lives differ greatly from mine I feel I truly connect with the personalities of these characters. Felix Unger is incredibly organized and

“Boy meets girl” and they live happily ever after... or not. (500) Days of Summer is the pure definition of a “complicated” relationship. Although one of the main characters, Summer, told Tom, another main character, that she didn 't want to be “anyone 's anything” at the start of their relationship, of course her actions proved to be a lot different than her words. Subsequently, the main point of the movie was love is real, but it depends on fate. There were many stages of the main character’s “relationship” that corresponds with what we have learned this semester about communicating with others.…

Felix is described as “fussy and having feminine interest”, while Oscar is more of a ‘manly man’. (Grayson 145). These conflicting stereotypes put them in the traditional delicate wife and aggressive husband role that many are used to seeing, insinuating that they’re a couple. Felix’s femininity is apparent through his obsessive nature with keeping things clean to the point where he would “go in and clean the [house] again” after both Frances and a maid would clean it (Simon, The Odd Couple 246). This cleanliness is often thought of as a female trait, which gives Felix his stereotype of being a ‘wife’.…

This year the Annual Literacy Festival was titled Strange Bedfellows and was mainly about Politics and Literature. This title was chosen to be the theme this year because of the new upcoming president that will be elected and all of the politics that are taking place right now. All of the participants this year were chosen based off of the fact that they all connect to “poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and have attempted to make sense and art out of political actualities” (Old Dominion University Libraries). The festival took place from Sunday September 25th to Thursday September 29th at different locations on campus. The event that I attended was held at the Baron and Ellie Gordon Art Galleries, I really enjoyed where the event took place because…

The movie Grace Is Gone by James Stokes, is a remarkable movie about a family who are going through the lost of loved one, and don’t know how to take the next necessary steps to move on. Grace is Gone, is a movie that I wouldn’t think would hit home with me from simply reading the title. Little to be told, at different moments in the movie I had to stop myself from shedding tears, because I am a daughter of a man who is in the military. For the twenty out of my twenty-four years of life my dad has been fighting for this country. I sympathize with Dawn and Heidi especially, because my worst nightmare turned into their reality and that is something that I prayed will never happened to my dad.…

The second show I watched was Arthur. This show growing up was one of my favorites and as a child there was an Arthur book I absolutely loved and would have my mother read to me all the time. The particular episode I watched included Francine and Buster thinking they are too good for the soccer team they are on so they switch to a better team in hopes for some better competition. Only to find that the harder team is much more time consuming and taking away from other things they enjoy so they go back to there first team. And the second described a time in which one of D.W’s friends at school kept telling lies to get out of another lie and she realized it was never going to end…

Exploring Violence within the Travel Narrative. Geoff Dyer travels to Cambodia, Emily Malone to Brazil, and Joan Didion to Las Vegas, Nevada. They all share a common experience - they are travellers, and authors, they come bearing a western perspective and they deal with the reality and effect of violence. When an author from a privileged background, defined in this instance as a background free from governmental or militarized violence, travels to a country or place affected by violence, do they have a responsibility to portray the effect that violence has had on that place?…

How does Bronte present marriage in Wuthering Heights? Throughout ‘Wuthering Heights’, Bronte conveys the destruction caused by socially convenient marriages; it seems that the tragic romance of Heathcliff and Catherine is the root of the novel and conveys the consequences inflicted by marrying for status rather than love. Bronte expresses the idea that marriage should be based upon “devotion” and love. The challenging of these socially constructed boundaries of marriage, adds to the gothic element of the novel.…

This essay will argue why Jane Austen`s Pride and Prejudice does not support the idea of a companionate marriage. The novel does not support a companionate marriage because it involves characters marrying for the economic realities of marriage and for the benefit of their social class rather than for love and equality. Marriage in the novel can be seen as more than the act of falling in love and making the most serious commitment in one`s life. It requires characters to enter a legal contract, not just for the economic realities that come with a marriage but because society requires them to make this commitment. Firstly, this essay will argue that finance becomes a crucial issue in the arrangement of the marriage of Charlotte and Mr. Collins…

In some instances, Shakespeare 's play 'Twelfth Night ' could be seen as a romantic comedy due to the common themes of despair and infatuation that the audience find to be amusing. The play 's main focus is romantic love, and the many aspects of comedy derive from seeing characters pining after one another. However, the play itself could be seen as a satire due to the stereotypical vision of love that is created. Shakespeare often mocks the idealistic image of love by demonstrating emotions as exaggerated and overwhelming for all characters involved. It is for this reason that I believe 'Twelfth Night ' to be predominantly a satire, as the humour is found in the ridiculing of love.…
