The Odd Couple Play Analysis

I went to see “The Odd Couple (female version)” by Neil Simon at Brodniak Hall in Anacortes on November 12 and 19. The play was directed by Scott Burnett and two student directors: Cierra DeCamp and Helena Pleet. I went to see the show twice with different casts. The First cast was Angelina Sasso as Sylvie, Kathleen Farr as Mickey, Trinity Bean as Renee, Maddie Hering as Vera, Aaliyah Cervantes as Olive Madison, Cabry Biddle as Florence Unger, Scott Geer as Manolo, and Jonathan Pringle as Jesus. The second cast was Maddie Hamblen as Sylvie, Lexie Prue as Mickey, Anna Wolf as Renee, Eden McOmber as Vera, Isabella Zullo as Olive Madison, Jade Carter as Florence Unger, Jake LaSalle as Manolo, and Jonathan Pringle as Jesus. The play was about the …show more content…
Cabry Biddle and Jade Carter, both playing Florence Unger were fantastic. Their overall tone and mannerisms were perfect for their character. When Florence first enters, both actors had a melancholy look about them that accurately portrayed someone who had just broken up with their significant other. Also, when arguing with Olive about how to fix the dinner before Manolo and Jesus arrived, Cabry and Jade both had a aloofness in their tone and offended look on their faces when Olive suggested that Florence serve the dinner cold. This reflected Florence’s perfectionist nature when it comes to cooking and brought the character to life. I did have a hard time understanding several actors for enunciation reasons. Occasionally some of Eden’s (playing Vera) lines ran together and it was hard to understand exactly what she was saying. I had more trouble understanding Anna Wolf (played Renee). There were times when I only knew what was going on because I had seen the play once before. Though her acting a portrayal of the character were very good, the problems understanding her did take away from the performance. Jonathan Pringle (played Jesus), Scott Geer (played Manolo), and Jake LaSalle (played Manolo) all did a wonderful job. Jonathan really showed the emotional side of Jesus whereas Scott and Jake showcased the proper attitude of Manolo. I did notice that Scott broke character once and it was distracting because it shifted the mood of

The comical personalities all the characters had helped the audience become more intrigued in the story of this play. From this play, I liked that there was only one actor for each character. It made it easier to understand which character was which. The actors had different costumes, which made it easier to apprehend who was…

The play, Yankee Tavern, by Steven Dietz, published by Dramatists Play Service Inc, was unquestionably some food for thought. All throughout the storyline, numerous conspiracies ranging from starbucks being a cult in a cup to man landing on the moon were woven between the four main characters, Adam, Janet, Ray and Palmer. That being said, perhaps the most prominent of all, were the one’s related to the terrorist attack on the United States on September 11, 2001. Needless to say, that was probably a touchy subject to write so in detailed about. Nonetheless, Dietz crafted the plotline in a very elegant and perhaps informative manner.…

Lavinia played by Kate Lydic was praised, “Kate Lydic imparts memorable dimensionality to Lavina despite not having the ability to speak for much of the play”(Richards). Though Lavinia didn’t have many lines, she still did a memorable job and had a good use of body to convey emotion. The New York Times says that Brandan Averett was “excellent”, and Gretchen Egolf was “fabulous” (Gates), Tamora and Titus are the leads in the play, and both got short praises. The use of language by the cast was praised ,“These actors demonstrate their craft so well there is nothing intimidating about the language. With double entendre galore and raw emotion already present in the language, this team brings the incredible words to life”(Roberts).…

Throughout the production of The New Mrs. Tesman, the skill and technique displayed by Ernest Briggs and Kristina Johnson stood out amongst the rest, while the dry and unemotional performance of Matthew Bratko left much to be desired. Briggs and Johnson’s use of body language paired with their sly and conniving tones, provided an authentic element to their performance. However, Bratko’s lack of emotion and poor projection, seemed too scripted and forced, making it difficult to buy into his acting. Among the most effective techniques on display by Briggs and Johnson, their use of body language provided an authentic feel to their characters.…

With efforts to elect John Anderson as the first 3rd party president as the central action, this play explores many different issues such as politics, sexuality, and race from the time period; however, at the center of it there was a message of hope. Cotter uses the character Kathleen to portray the naively hopeful small town girl. She is foiled with Robyn, the A-type, sceptical, rich, and ivy-league “alumni”. Robyn and Brenda repetitively try to teach Kathleen not to be so naive. Kathleen refuses to give up on people, to a point of fault.…

It was as if there was not a crowd watching them perform, especially during the romance scenes between Maria and Tony. It was if they were the only two in the room. The two did not miss a reaction from each other. When one smiled the other did the same, it was as if they were actually in love. One critique I do have about the romance scenes is how quickly the two fell in love.…

The characters were very realistic and you could tell that they were really getting into character and the accents were excellent and very real. The Puerto Ricans had a good Spanish accent, which made it very realistic, they showed good technique to keep the accent going throughout the play. I didn’t know much about the play before we watched it but it became a lot clearer when we saw the two gangs started fighting you could tell that it was based on Romeo and Juliet so they did well portraying this at the start of the play. The themes of the play were Love and hate, love being the main one was as Maria and Tony fell in love however, they were from two different gangs who hated each other, a sharp contrast.…
