“A Certified Health Education Specialist has to pass a special exam. It is for entry-level health educators with a bachelor’s degree. They have to maintain their certification with 75 hours of continuing education every 5 years” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2014, para.18).
Current issues relevant to the profession There are many issues a health educator will come across. Many public health issues include HIV/AIDS, immunizations, and heart disease. Heart disease is one of the most important topics the Unites States is concerned about. Heart disease is one of the main causes of death in the U.S. It is very important that the public is made aware of the risk factors, signs and symptoms, and treatment options. One of the duties I perform as an occupational therapy assistant is help patients recover from strokes. This is the main diagnosis I have seen every place I have worked. Exercise and diet play an important role in managing heart health. As a health educator I would be able to collect important information about heart disease and teach people how to live healthy in order to prevent medical
