My Observation Of Effective Communication In The Classroom

Although I have not been able to attend Lafayette Academy much, I have observed a magnificent teacher. Ms. Robinson teaches 1st grade an engages each child in every one of her lessons. She takes the time to work with each student and seems to have a good relationship with each child’s families. For example, if one student is off task and not completing the lesson she encourages them by saying “If I should that to your mom would she be happy?” She engages the students with her tone of voice sometimes even singing in the classroom.
Most the time I have been there the class has been working on spelling and phonics. It seems the students are excited about literacy. Every time they are in a literacy lesson the students seem actively engaged and

Robinson also showed me how centers work in the classroom. There were around five centers each consisting of different activities. In the back of the room there was choral reading with Ms. Robinson. The students seemed most excited to go there and get to work in a small group. The group that I was most closely observing was playing a rhyming and phonemic awareness card game. This worked for the most part, however without supervision students seemed to want to cheat their way through it. I would adapt this method however; I would hope to have a second teacher to help monitor the stations other than the main one. I think centers are a great break in the day for students while still learning. They get to interact with friends in a controlled, learning …show more content…
I have witnessed her do a running record. She put a table of letters in front of the child and set the timer for one minute. She also had the same table in front of her. As they went through the letters she would check off or write what they said. I was watching the lowest performing students, therefore, most did not get passed the first line. Another form of assessment that Ms. Robinson uses is in class quizzes and activities. She will hand out different activities and tell them it will be graded. Often times she has to remind students to look at their own papers. I do not always feel this is effective because it seems the same students are always failing. I never see Ms. Robinson going over the test, however I am only there two hours a week. I think it is important to explain to each student what needs to be improved. I understand this takes time and cannot be done with every assessment but the students must know what they answered correctly and what they did not. This will help them improve in the future and understand what is going

At Rose City High School, much of what Ms. Enriquez does involves assessment with students and at times intervention, but mostly assessment. In terms of assessment, she said there isn’t any specific person that determines the need for a student to be assessed but rather anyone could request it. Depending on the student’s needs, she begins with different comprehensive assessments, ones that focus on socialization and communication, and if required, she’ll have the school nurse there for developmental assessment. Since assessments can differ, there will at times be different colleagues that may partake in an assessment such as a Special Education Teacher, or a school nurse, or sometimes a speech therapist, depending on what the student requires.…

Assessment is a method used to determine whether learning has taken place. It is an opportunity to clarify whether the learner has gained the necessary skills in relation to the various parts of their qualification. Assessments can take place at every visit with the learner through observation, discussion, examinations, and questioning. Learners in Wales also complete project work towards their English and Maths qualification. Anne Gravell states: “Assessments should focus on improving and reinforcing learning as well as measuring achievements.…

Besides the teamwork and communication skills that I have developed through participation in interscholastic activities, taking part in these events has given me the opportunity to meet new people, step out of my comfort zone, and discover more about myself. I have met many students from other schools through participation in extracurricular activities, and as a result, I have established friendships and other connections with people from all over North Dakota. Interscholastic activities have also helped me overcome my insecurity and step outside my comfort zone. When I was in junior high, I was shy and did not feel comfortable pushing myself beyond what I thought I could do. Today, because of the skills I have developed through activities…

As teachers we are constantly assessing and re-assessing students and their work. When we create lessons the assessments should be created before implementing our lessons. We should begin each lesson with the end in mind to know if our students leaned materials or not. We should have clear, measurable objectives that steer our assessments. If students do not grasp material they should be retaught and then reassessed at a later time.…

My fieldwork experience has made me understand that having numerous teaching strategies like Mrs. Meredith is very beneficial to the students. If one student does not grasp a concept when you are explaining it then you as a teacher can try showing it to them. Another way she lets the children learn is playing games and using student–student problem solving. As a teacher you just have to keep trying to help kids understand topics in their own learning style so…

Verbal and non-verbal communication allows a teacher to effectively communicate with students, maintain classroom management, address appropriate behaviors and expectations, and provide and safe and respectful classroom environment. Verbal communication consists of what a teacher or student says out loud. This includes a teacher directly interacting with her students by verbalizing information through teacher-student communication. When the class is being loud or disruptive, the teacher can talk to the class as a whole to be quiet or redirect their attention. When it a specific student needs to be talked to, the teacher can have one-on-one communication with the student before, during, or after class.…
