In the poems “The Passionate Shepherd” by Christopher Marlowe, “The Nymph 's reply to the Shepherd” by Sir Walter Raleigh, and “Raleigh Was Right” by William Carlos Williams, all share a central idea in unit one. They all view nature, either bad or good. The Shepherd and the Nymph both share images that tend to have the same thinking. In all the three poems, the authors depict how society views nature. Nature on the other hand, people view as beautiful, and then other people view nature as not important.

The nymph rejects the passionate shepherds request to be “thy love,” but the nymph does appreciate that the shepherd would do this kind gesture. The nymph unfortunately does not see that nature is as important as the passionate shepherd would like the nymph to see it. She does not think the best thing to do is be “thy love.” Although in the long run, the nymph does appreciate these gifts, but she can not accept them.. The nymph realizes that love always dies, and how it never lasts. The nymph says that “Time drives the flocks from field to fold, when rivers rage and rocks grow cold,” explaining that over time, the love that the passionate shepherd will not be everlasting. The nymph realizes that the gifts were made with flowers, and symbolically the flowers will die, just like love will. Unfortunately, since the nymph does not see eye to eye with the shepherd, but they both share the same image. Also in “The Nymph’s Reply to The Shepherd,” the tone changes in the story. The tone of the story shifts to a more denying or a sad tone. The cause of the shift in the tone is only because the nymph is rejecting the nymphs request to be “my
