When I look at the food that I consumed for Friday night, I have realized that my diet contains few vegetables and fruits. Furthermore, I did not take any dairy food. When I went to Choose My Plate website, I entered my age: 21, height: 156 cm, weight: 48 kg, and exercise 40-60 minutes a day. According to this website, it suggests that I intake 2000 calories per day. My dairy food plan recommends that I have 6 ounces of grains, 2.5 cups of vegetables, 2 cups of fruits, 3 cups of dairy, and 5.5 ounces of protein foods.
According to the Harris- Benedict Equation to calculate the Resting Energy Expenditure (REE), the equation is:
655+(9.6 x weight in kg) + (1.8 x height in cm) – (4.7 x age in years)
655+(9.6 x 48 kg) + (1.8 x 156 cm) - (4.7 x 21)
655+460.8 + 280.8 - 98.7 = 1297.9 kcalories

“REE represents the energy expended or used by a person at rest” (Lutz, C., Mazur, E., & Litch, N. 2015. Nutrition and Diet Therapy sixth edition, pg. 87). The textbook suggests when only weight is available, the estimate for REE for 20-30 year olds is 25 kcalories/kg body weight/ day. Also, the textbook suggests that based on energy needs in kcalories based on activity level and age for 19-30 year old females with a “moderately active” lifestyle is 2000-2200 which is the same figure

My choice for lunch was pretty bad since I did not include vegetables, dairy, protein foods. I should have included salad with beans. Since I usually do not have enough time to eat lunch, I chose banana, chocolate croissant since those foods do not take time to eat. However I have to eat more dairy, vegetable, and protein for lunch to satisfy my daily food plan. My caloric intake is still higher than my average expenditure (2,305 calories) which is good, because it is only higher by a relatively small amount.
