Subsequently, we see the Nurse; Juliet’s handmaiden and close friend. Her role as comic relief can relieve tension at conflicting points in the play, such as the discussion with Juliet’s mother on Paris’ worth as a husband. The Nurse is the person that Juliet feels comfortable talking to about the situation with Romeo, and she also serves as a “romantic go-between” for the couple. Though her actions seem frivolous at some points in the play, she gets lampooned by Mercutio for this, her continued adoration of Juliet is laudable to her character.
