The play Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, is a tragic love story between the couple’s feuding families, which ultimately leads to their double suicide. Many things lead to their untimely death. While the Nurse and Friar Lawrence are partly responsible for the death of Juliet. Shakespeare positions Lord Capulet as most responsible due to the fact that he is liable for stopping the feud, has forced Juliet to marry Paris, which is why Juliet wanted to kill herself in the first place and that he didn’t stop Tybalt from going after Romeo.

This is what pushes Juliet to suicide and goes to see Friar Lawrence. “[Juliet to the Friar] O, bid me leap, rather than marry Paris, From off the battlements of yonder tower; Or walk in thievish ways; or bid me lurk Where serpents are; chain me with roaring bears”. (IV.I.214). the extremeness in Juliet’s words is what makes the Friar act so rash. Lord Capulet pushed Juliet to suicide when she so clearly didn’t want to marry Paris “[Juliet to Lord Capulet] Good Father, I beseech you on my knees, Hear me with Patience but to speak a word” (III.V.198). Lord Capulet refused to even listen to the reason she didn’t want to marry Paris, therefore Lord Capulet is most responsible for the death of Juliet. Lord Capulet is the head of the family and failed to stop Tybalt from going after Romeo. “[Lord Capulet to Tybalt] Content thee gentle coz. Let him alone.” (I.V.62) He was not forceful enough with Tybalt and should of taken better care that Tybalt obeyed his word. When Tybalt does go after Romeo, Tybalt ends the life of Mercutio and Romeo avenges Mercutio so the Prince then banishes
