The family systems theory is a theory introduced by Dr. Murray Bowen that suggests that individuals cannot be understood in a single setting, but rather as a part of their family, as the family is an emotional unit Family systems theory gives clarity to the context in which parenting takes place. Couple therapy is the start of any issue before it becomes a family issue. It all starts with the couple, who maybe having trouble after being committed into a relationship. If issues are not solved then it can be a huge issue if they plan to start a family. For some people, they think therapy will help improve all their problems but it does not. The Nuclear Family Emotional Process describes the relationship of patterns. The process discussed the growth of the back bone from whether you were raised in a single parent home or by step parents. The process took interest in the levels of tension and how the family dealt with stress. Researchers try to discover where the symptoms develop and the well-being of each individual in the family. The family projection process focuses on the emotion of the child and what they fear. Some parents treats the child as if there is something wrong, making the child believe that they have a problem. Some therapist thought that it would be best if each couple members experience each other in new ways, the therapist acts to dislodge the self-reinforcing, circular interactional loops that are maintaining the couple’s presenting problem, and helps the couple to stabilize more functional loops that are problem-free (Simon, 2006). There are five unique steps in to help improve a couple’s relationship. The first step is changing the views of the relationship, which is not playing the blame game. Modifies dysfunctional behavior in this case it helps the couples improve their behavior while with each other. Decreases emotional avoidance; holding back private feelings that put the couple at risk of becoming emotionally distant and grow apart.
