As a society, we have become desensitized to how the violence in video games and television plays apart into shootings. Many people that have been affected by video games and do not know it. Some are affected more than others, but it’s starting to spiral out of control. Many families are being affected by these shooters that are getting out of control. People like Chris Harper-Mercer, who said “I’ve been waiting to do this for years” right before he killed and injured 17 people, including himself (Fletcher). What is going on in these shooter’s mind and how are video games correlated? How can you be so happy with another person's suffering? Breivik had made a bomb and set it off in a central area in Norway’s capital. The bomb killed 8 people and injured dozens. Breivik then proceeded to an island and shooting at men, women, and children who were now trapped on the island. He continued to go back and forth between shooting people and surrendering to the police for several hours. By then he had killed 67 people and injured 33 people. Breivik later admitted to training for the massacre by playing “Call of Duty” to develop acquisition and was involved in the “World of Warcraft.” It is said that he would play video games for an average of six hours and 50 minutes every day for four months straight. Breivik received a 21 year sentence that can be extended if he is still considered a danger to society (“A Look Back at the Norway …show more content…
A freshman began an open fire on a group of teens that was praying before school. In the end, there was a death of three people (Holland). The freshman, Michael Carneal, did not ever move his feet while shooting. It is said that while shooting, “[Carneal] fired only once at each target that appeared, just as a player of video games maximizes his game score by shooting only once at each victim, in order to hit as many targets as possible” (Fletcher). Sarah Stewart Holland was a student this school in Kentucky. She lived through the traumatic shooting, got married and had kids; however, what she didn’t know is that because of the shooting that traumatized her, she lived in constant fear and suffered through post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) The shooting at Red Lake affected many people and was caused by Jeffrey Weise began shooting at Red Lake High School on March 21, 2005 after killing his grandfather. He killed a total of 10 people including himself. Up until that time, it was the deadliest shooting since the Columbine Shooting in 1999. Weise was consumed with violence and it showed in his interest in school shootings and the violent illustrations that filled his notebooks
