Mulan The story of Mulan starts out with Mulan, a young Chinese woman in the time when Huns roamed the Earth, was studying for the ‘Matchmaker’. However, she was having a hard time recalling all the ways a woman should behave for her husband. She wanted to do well for the examination in order to preserve her family’s honor. Memory (Section) module 24 Studying and Encoding Memories is about the process of encoding, storing, and recalling memories. In order for Mulan to remember all the information, she writes all of it done. However, because she is so nervous, she is unable to encode all the details. She resorts to writing down terms such as ‘pose’ and ‘punctual’ onto her arm. She does this in hopes that she will recognize them when the time …show more content…
In the beginning of the movie, Mulan is told that she must cook and clean for her husband without asking anything in return. She is not expected to do anything with her life other than serve her fellow man and try not to cause trouble. When her father receives his letter to join the army, Mulan intervenes and is silenced by the Emperor’s messenger. He say’s “You will do well to teach your daughter to hold her tongue in a man’s presence”. This reveals that women are not allowed to speak their mind freely as the men are superior to the women. This is an example of gender prejudice. Her father does not speak out against this but rather conforms to the role of being the superior being by telling her that she has ‘dishonored …show more content…
While Ping is in the army, she finds that she is struggling to keep up with the boy’s because she has never had to use her senses so acutely. The army is put through a training schedule of being able to use their senses accordingly so that they may use them in battle. They train their sight by shooting bows and rockets at targets. When they are shooting the arrow, they must be able to see it and aim at it within seconds of it falling. When they see it, they can shoot at it. They train touch by being able to focus and reach into a river to pull out a fish within seconds. Their sense of smell is then heightened by dodging arrows with fumes on them. They also use this element for their sense of hearing, but with them having to dodge firecrackers blindfolded.
