This shooting caused an uproar in the black community sparking the hashtag that made Black Lives Matter what it is today. Through the widely spreading word, not only has Black Lives Matter made an impact nationally, they have become internationally known. It uses all three by demonstrating the drawing power of ethics, emotion, and reason. It attacks today’s culture by showing how the ethics in the U.S. are deteriorating. By drawing out these instances, the illustrator is sparking an emotional response that will cause the masses to truly ruminate about the society that has become. The illustrator is persuading readers to realize how we are starting think reflects negatively on the nation as a whole leading to an intolerant country. It is clear the author wants to make the readers understand how we, as a nation, are portraying ourselves with the hopes of changing forward rather than regressing back to what once was.
Kairos presents itself clearly in the timing of the creation of the cartoon. Inequality is increasing rapidly and the majority who face it are fed up. By developing these groups to face head on the on going partisanship, change is happening. The idea of the “creation of an opening” is true to these movements.
