We listen to music and hear sound in our everyday lives, whether we are listening to the music in our car, or we are listening to the sound the vacuum makes when it is turned on. Sound and music however, are not a simple concept in physics. There are so many topics and under those are subtopics. These topics include waves, which is what we will be focusing on today. Sound waves are made very easily, in fact we create them every day. They can be created by smashing two cooking pans together, this is because as the pots hit each together they create vibrations. Music can also be made is a more complex way. Music is made by repeating sounds in a pattern. Although we cannot see it, waves transport energy. Sound has waves and these waves can be …show more content…
Galileo Galilei was one of the scientist that studied sound during the 1500’s (“sound”). To some people even say he is one of the greatest scientist especially for the topic of sound (“sound”). People claim this because Galileo was able to show the pitch of a sound was calculated by how often sound waves passed (“sound”). Although Galileo Galilei made a great contribution to the understanding of sound he was not the only one to contribute to the discoveries. Leonardo DaVinci was one of those who contributed greatly to these discoveries. In particular he discovered that sound moves in waves (“sound”). Another important contributor was Marin Mersenne who was the first man who successfully calculated how fast sound was while travelling through the medium, air (“sound”). The person who discovered that a medium was indispensable for sound waves, was Robert Boyle (“sound”). Yet another important scientist who not only contributed to the studies of sound was Sir Isaac Newton. He learned that all sound’s speed was affected by the medium it travels through (“sound”). He also learned other aspects of mediums and how they affect sound. The final scientist I will discuss is Daniel Bernoulli, and he made discoveries about frequencies …show more content…
One of the things that requires math when talking about sound is the speed of sound. The formula for this is exactly as it is when calculating the speed of any other concept; the distance divided by the time will give you the speed. Something that affects the speed of a wave is the medium, which is critical in determining the speed of a wave. If a medium has elastic characteristics, the speed will be less than an object with inertial properties.
Sound and music have plenty of vocabulary terms one of which is frequency. Frequency is how often a wave passes through a medium. Frequency is measured in Hertz or Hz- for short. Basically one hertz equals one vibration each second. The pitch of sound is related to frequency in the same manner. What I mean by this is that the higher the pitch the higher the frequency. Sound is measured is measured in decibels or dB- doe short. A waves length is called a wavelength in this wavelength there is a crest, and a through. The crest is the high part of the wave. On the other hand, the through is the lowest point of a wave.
In conclusion sound and music is very useful during our everyday lives and would not lead the lives we do today if it weren’t for sound and

Music hath charms to soothe the savage beast,” said William Congreve in The Mourning Bride. If the captivating melody could easily take the edge off of the most atrocious monster, then, what are other significant impacts of euphonic sounds for the society? Many are gradually acknowledging the underlying implications of harmonies to their percipience, as seen in the ironical case of Ludwig van Beethoven. The composer of some of the most celebrated music history, such as Moonlight Sonata and Fidelio, spends most of his career going deaf. The fine structure can be thought of as the more detailed variation of the sound wave because the sound itself moves at a much faster pace than the overall fluctuation of the sound envelope. For speech comprehension, the envelope of the sound is the most important component because words are identified based on the envelope of the sounds wave. However, for pitch perception and localization, the fine structure of a sound wave is the most important component because the sound of speech is heard at a location based on the sounds fine structure. Acoustics is the branch of physics concerned with the study of sound. Sound is a wave made of vibrations in the air. Waves can be measured in a range of different ways: by their amplitude, wavelength, frequency, speed, and, at times, their phase. Sound information is transmitted by the amplitude and frequency of the vibrations, where the amplitude is experienced as loudness and frequency as pitch. The vibration is started by some mechanical movement and this causes a vibration on the molecules next to the mechanical event.…

Phonetics was first studied in the Indian subcontinent in the 4th century BCE, or even earlier than that the 6th century BCE, with Panini's explanation of the place (where are the sounds produced) and manner (how they are produced) of articulation of consonants. In the late 19th century, the phonogram was invented,…
