Gun Control Persuasive Speech

Imagine you are asleep in your warm bed at two in the morning when you hear a window break downstairs. Your first thought is your children and their safety. Before leaving your bedroom, you grab your gun. You walk down the hall and tell your children to get under their beds. As you go down stairs and peek around the corner, you see a man holding a knife, stealing your television and other valuables. You know that in a few minutes he will be coming up stairs and you and your family will be in danger. You run back upstairs and call 911 but realize that they probably won’t be there in time. There are actually many accounts where a person with a gun has stopped a shooting. One example found by by Eugene Volokh in The Washington Post, tells about an Uber driver in Chicago that legally carried a gun in his car. He “shot and wounded a gunman who opened fire on a crowd of people.” Using his gun, the Uber driver was able to stop the gunman from potentially killing many more innocent people. Another interesting example found by Eugene Volokh talks about a guy that opened fire in a Philadelphia Barber Shop. “Another man with a concealed-carry permit then shot the shooter (The Washington Post). The man with the concealed-carry permit was able to stop the shooter from hurting anyone else. Each of these stories are great examples of how legally owning a gun is extremely helpful when needed for protection. With gun control, these law-abiding citizens would most likely not have their guns with them while the criminals probably would have. These men couldn’t have helped save many people 's lives without protection through their guns. That is why it is so important to solve the gun control issue because there can be freedom or safety but never both in equal
