Narrative Essay On Black Friday Shopping

Decent Essays
The night of Thanksgiving in 2012 I went Black Friday shopping with my aunt in New York. I was very excited since it was my first time going and even more anxious since we were in New York. I planned for weeks what I wanted to buy and what stores I wanted to go to. I searched the paper and online ads to see what stores had the best prices and deals. I made sure that the first thing I packed in my gigantic green suitcase were the ads. While shopping on Black Friday you need to have a game plan of where you are going and what you are buying or else you will feel overwhelmed. My heart would start racing when I saw a Black Friday ad on the television because I could not wait to finally be a part of the Black Friday madness. I heard stories …show more content…
We knew we were going to have to leave much earlier since we were in New York and a lot more people means a lot more traffic. After we were done coming up with a game plan my aunt and I took a power nap. As soon as we woke up we put our clothes on and ran out of the door. As soon as we walked out of the front door the freezing air hit me and I knew it would be a long night. The traffic wasn 't so bad getting there so we made a pit stop at Starbucks. The hot chocolate felt boiling hot going down my throat but I did not care because it was freezing outside and the cup kept my hands from freezing. We then left and we were on our way to take on Black Friday at Target. As we pulled up to Target the line was wrapped all the way around the store. We did not know what we had gotten ourselves into at that point. We sat in our white rental van for about five minutes and then we decided to change the game plan and go to Kohl’s instead since Target was way too packed and it was right around the …show more content…
When we arrived there were not many people in line and we were proud of ourselves for arriving early to get the free camera promotion. We waited in line for about a half hour and during that time the line got about a half mile long. I had never been so cold in my life and I had never appreciated heat as much as I did in that half hour of standing in the freezing cold. The doors to Old Navy swung open and it was game time! There was a five dollar fleece jacket deal and I made sure to get one. As I was grabbing the jacket off of the rack a woman on the other side started pulling on it at the same time. I was so angry that the woman had the audacity to fight over a jacket with a young girl! I pulled as hard as I could and I heard the jacket rip and the woman fell backwards! I ran away and found another jacket that I liked, handed it to my aunt, then left the store. I was extremely embarrassed and shocked after it had happened. I’m sure that there was another jacket in the same size and color right next to it, but I still do not understand why she fought over that one. Lots of crazy stuff happens in New York but it is the craziest thing to ever happen to me in a store and I do not plan on going Black Friday shopping in New York ever again. After my aunt was done shopping and was checking out I went back in to stand in the tremendously long line with her. I was

Even though people enjoy shopping I think stores should still be closed because the shoppers can't spend time with family and because people can get hurt… Shopping on Thanksgiving can be fun… I guess?
