In the Nicene Creed, which Christians state during every mass, they state, “We believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church.” Since they say this during every mass it must be of great importance to them. Others outside of the Christian church might not agree with this statement because they do not know what this means to Christians. To Christians the meanings of these words are not in the literal sense of there is only one church or that everyone that is a part of the church is saint-like and pure in every single way. When it is said that the church is catholic it is meant that the church does not resided in one location but that it spreads through out the world. It also means that the church is accepting of all people, no matter what and that they would never shun someone like other groups of people. Another thing that refers to the catholicity of the church is that the it is the one of the church’s mission to teach and preach about all of the gospel and not just focus always on one particular part. The church is also catholic in the way that it proclaims salvation to all. The Catholic Church teaches that every sin can be forgiven. This means that the church goes out and spreads the good news of God. Martin Luther believed that the Word of God did not exist unless people were hearing the Word. He also believed that anyone is able to spread the Word of God. This still holds truth in the Catholic Church today by which there are laymen lecturers during church that read the daily readings along with the priests who read the gospels. An example of the church being apostolic is how members of the church deliver Holy Eucharist to the elderly and homebound people of the church community. A specific example of how I have gone out with my church and spread the good news of God is how during the summer of 2014 a group of teens, our youth group leader, and some parent volunteers went down to David, Kentucky for a week to help build and repair houses for those in need. We were apostolic in the way that we took time out of our buys lives to help others that needed us, just as God has taught us to
