During World War II, the world saw the first glimpse of the use of drones in a war. General Henry Arnold, a leader in what was then the U.S. Army Air Forces, established an innovative way to attack largely stimulated German positions. He used remote technology to control old bomb planes that his troops loaded with explosives. General Arnold’s prediction in 1945 was that “the next war may be fought with no men in them at all.” Almost seventy years later, his prediction is being recognized by many countries around the world and we are beginning to see how drones affect the world individually, domestically and globally.
The global issue raised in the article, “The Next Drone Wars: Preparing for Proliferation”, is that there are dangers of armed drones as we see an increase in technology capabilities and as more countries start to use them for military purposes. The …show more content…
This is one of the main reasons many countries have not moved forward with the use of drones. They don’t want spend their allocated savings on unmanned drones until they see threats towards them where they feel they need the extra technological support. The complexity of drones is outstanding, but is another reason why countries are reluctant to purchasing and using them. More military training is helpful and is obligatory for the most part to control these drones. “They need actionable intelligence, sophisticated communications, access to satellite bandwidth, and complex systems engineering- all assets presently beyond the reach of most states.”(Kreps and Zenko 70) Another disadvantage to including drones in today’s warfare is that it is diplomatic. Like planes, drones need somewhere to land, and being that they are ‘military’ drones, it needs to be a safe and secure place.
