The New Jim Crow Law is a book by Michelle Alexander in which is talks about the “new” Jim Crow Laws that are supposed to be a good idea of the nature of the Jim Crow from 1890 to 1965. The book talks about how the society caste still exists to this day, specifically the racism caste. Their lives have been changed from not only behind the bars but after they have gotten out with a “fresh” start. Their past still haunts them and does not allow them to really truly have a fresh start. Criminals in and out from mass incarceration are controlled. The War on Drugs is the most influential issue that has caused mass incarceration, in which it is the new Jim Crow. There is a high increase of arrests and incarceration of young black men. Race and poverty play a huge role in the New Jim Crow.

We all are guilty of stereotyping, someone based on their clothes, voice, car, house, materialistic things and/or yes, color. We may have just met that person or saw them across the street or heck even a picture of them. With that being said, African Americans are stereotypes daily especially from their label due to society and media. Michelle Alexander talks about how more black people are incarnated then being slaves before the Civil Rights Movement, crazy!! Crimes of all sizes [if they were even committed] are stealing black lives, especially young black lives, from their families.
