Reflection On The Transition To College

Every year students from all over the globe leave high school and begin their transition to college. This is an immense step for these new independent high school graduates. For many they have not been mentally prepared or just what to expect from college, as high school goes by the transition is more of a broad jump into a sea of unknown. Raider Ready has been a established as the smoother transition between high school and college. It teaches the ill prepared freshman what to expect and how to deal with new obstacles that many students face everyday. You will find new experiences through this class and on or off campus. My notes were seeming impossible to study as much of the notes were patchy with information because of the vast need to copy everything word for word which simply was not attainable, while leaving out key information while being replaced with irrelevant and incomplete sentences. One strategy I learned was that all professors teach different which requires different note taking strategies to prove helpful for a test. As for History class I learned what would be most beneficial towards the next test, this was listening for important people, dates, and keys terms. What you have to understand is the broad aspect of what was accruing and to succeed was the important date and facts on which showed extensive knowledge on the subject. Through Raider Ready we participated in a test which displayed an individuals most beneficial note taking skills. It tested how we perceived information and what we can do to retain it. Personally the test concluded that the most beneficial way for me to study was reading out loud my notes with a partner, which seems fitting based on my fondness of conversation.
