Hawkins and Clinton (2015) book, “The New Christian Counselor: A Fresh Biblical & Transformational Approach” outlines the important aspects of Christian counseling (Hawkins & Clinton, 2015). The book starts with the definition of Christian counseling. There is a clear overview of Christian counseling principles throughout the book.
Definition of Christian Counseling
“Christian counseling is a dynamic, collaborative process involving at least three persons – the counselor, the client, and the triune God of the Bible – aimed at transformational change for the purpose of producing higher levels of emotional, psychological, and spiritual health in persons seeking help” (Hawkins & Clinton, 2015, p. 41) Processes include methods involving Christ, the client and the counselor. Throughout these phases, Christ is at the forefront or assessment, goal setting, change, implementation and evaluation. Effective Christian approaches through the challenging task of counseling troubled individuals are the central scheme of Hawkins and Clinton (Hawkins & Clinton, 2015).
