The author of the short story “The Nest” has made an excellent effort in showing the true intentions of the characters. One of the characters in The Nest was Jimmy. A teenager trying to prove to his mom, Mrs. Swanson how his best friend, Paul is not a bad individual although Paul did have a troubling past of stealing, and an alcoholic father. Mrs. Swanson thinks that Paul is a bad person and influence to Jimmy so she tries to convince Jimmy on why Paul is a bad person but Jimmy does not listen because he knows that Paul is not what people think he is.
In the Nest Jimmy tends to portray a lot of mixed feelings about Mrs. Swanson’s thought about Paul. As The story starts, the reader can tell that Jimmy is a stubborn child. This trait fits him best because in some parts of the story Jimmy does not listen to his mom when she tells and gives him reasons on why Paul is a bad person, but instead he still chooses to be Paul’s friend. We can see this is the case when Mrs. Swanson tells Jimmy after he finds out the real reason she does not want him to go hiking, “I Don’t think Paul is good for you”, then Jimmy argues back and says, “I like Paul, he’s my best friend”. That shows evidence that Jimmy did not agree with Mrs. Swanson and was very stubborn when she said that she does not want him to hang out with Paul. …show more content…
Jimmy expressed a trait of rebellion when Mrs. Swanson told him that he that he can not go hiking with Paul because Paul has troubled past, but Jimmy did not obey Mrs. Swanson, instead he ran off to meet Paul.
