Screen time is very popular in today’s world, Young people and even old people have SmartPhones, TV’s, Computers and it is taking over. People are spending 5-7 hours a day in front of screens. Some affects include: Screen time can decrease sleep time making it difficult to work the next day and over time stunt growth. Anxiety, A mental health disorder characterized by feelings of worry, anxiety, or fear that are strong enough to interfere with one's daily activities. Obesity, you sit down the whole day, No physical activity which causes fat. Physical activity decreases, Similar to obesity sitting down all day gets you nowhere …show more content…
Students and parents were surveyed about everything from screen time limits, to violent media exposure, to bedtimes and behavior. Teachers reported grades and commented on student behavior and school nurses measured each student’s height and weight.
Data were collected at the start of the program and seven months later at the end of the program. By looking at these factors collectively with a group of children over a school year, it was easier for researchers to identify patterns that are hard to recognize in individual children.
The American Association of Pediatrics recently updated its guidelines to encourage parents to think of a screen as just another place their children interact in. Previously the guidelines stated that parents should limit children to two hours of screen time a day and children under the age of two should not be exposed to screens at all. If you have been able to adhere to those guidelines, I applaud you. Screens and tech have become such an integrated part of our daily lives that many families find sticking to the guidelines impossible. The new guidelines recognize this, and have been updated to reflect what parents are already doing. The updates state that all environments have positive and negative effects and it is how we teach our children to balance those effects that make all the difference. The screen is just another type of environment that children are active in. We can no longer classify all time spent in front of a screen as passive.
