Values Across Pop Culture Have you ever watched a movie or an episode of TV? Have you seen how society values other people and their objects? It is just straight up trash how we treat people nowadays. What about music? Have you actually listened to what the singer is saying? It is all putting negative images in the listeners head. Possibly one of the most negative affects of social networking or media is that it causes the users to get addicted. A value is a general idea that certain types of behaviors are good, right, or moral. One of the most impactful affects social media has is that it connects families that cannot talk in person due to a distance issue. With the increasing amount of people on social networking it has created a communication barrier by allowing someone to post a status on Facebook or any other way of communication and receive comments about their work rather than going to a reliable person that they can trust and ask them about their situation. Likewise the communication barrier created by social networking has made it to where people are less social when they get in public and meet new people. When the internet plays a big role in your everyday actions it can take away your focus and attention from a certain task. A huge negative effect of television is nutrition. Girls will sit and watch other grown women in the model role and be jealous of their looks that they have and will most likely acquire an eating disorder. Many advertisements that appear within the three minutes of commercial time will most likely contain fast food and candy commercials leading to the likeliness of obesity. Cigarette use has been more and more influential when adolescents are the target of advertisements. Advertisements can be difficult for young children to understand because they believe what they want to believe. Television can be very misleading because they will show a unmarried couple having sexual relations and promote that it is all okay or that everyone is doing it yet media does not warn the viewer about STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases) or the possibility of getting the girl pregnant. Important activities such as reading, exercise, and any other mental or social development are limited due to a large amount of television watching. Drugs and television are both addictions that people struggle with on the day to day basis.
