When students have their phones out in class and they are sending text messages they aren 't giving their professors the full and undivided attention so they aren 't paying attention for the time lost on their phones. This isn’t fair to teachers because it’s very unethical. “When Texting is Wrong,” by Randy Cohen, expresses that texting isn’t appropriate depending on the time of day and it depends on where you are and what tasks you might be doing. To note that texting isn’t wrong, but knowing the place and situation you’re in really makes a significant difference to society and yourself. Not only just focusing on the parts where it causes harm to other people, but notice that if you’re in a family surrounded environment being on your phone during the entire time doesn’t look good however, you might think it’s okay it really isn’t to people next you. Cohen stresses that just knowing what location and setting tone you are makes a significant amount of difference even when you’re just texting. It’s good to be aware of what’s going around you.
