The people that come into the country carry along their beliefs, religion and norms that are cultivated into a person. This means that Americans can borrow the best practices from all the different cultures brought in by immigrants and instill them into their lifestyles. One cultural aspect that can be discussed is religion. America is known to practice almost every world religion, we have the rights of US citizens to choose whatever religion they relate to, this is known as religious freedom. “Around 80% of the population identify themselves with Christian religion, while more than 10% of US citizens claim that they do not adhere to any religion at all. It was also found that the second most commonly identified religion in the United States is Judaism with nearly 2% of the population affiliating with it. At the same time, Islamic religion is not that common, with less than 1% of the population identifying themselves as Muslims,” (Porter 2). For example, my father and his family lived in Ethiopia but migrated with his family to Israel, he absorbed the religion and customs of the Hebrew culture and my mother who is Christian, absorbed her own culture, now both customs of the Hebrew and Christian culture flow strong into my lifestyle. Further, immigrants influence the speaking of different languages. For example, there is no official language of the United States, because there are many languages spoken in different regions of this country. Kumar states, “Almost every language is spoken in the United States such as: Spanish, Chinese, French and German are among the most frequently spoken non-English languages. Ninety percent of the U.S. population speaks and understands at least some English, and most official business is conducted in English. Immigration influences the demographics of America.” This quote shows how outside cultures can influence cultures in America so people have the freedom to experiment
