Walking down a supermarket in Japan, I ended up seeing many foods with labels. For example, soybean oils were labeled as either “non-GMO” or “GMO separated”. Living in the bay area for half of my life, I was fortunate to have access to buy organic foods from various supermarkets or even grow foods in my own backyard. Reading and looking at the smartphone apps help people to differentiate between GMOs and natural goods. However, the truth is genetically modified organisms have not yet had a huge effect on human. Based on long-term effects that are affecting animals such as cancer, soon or later human will be affected by the consequences. Even though there are people taking the opposite side and supporting GMOs, I still think buying locally produced foods are healthier. Not only the government but the people should also support the local farmers so farmers will continue to grow products without genetic mutations. Although the pricing for organic food might be higher, the quality of the food and health matters more. Those people that are consuming GMOs are putting their life at risk. In the future, I imagined a life where the things I saw in Japan will finally appear in the United States. All foods will be labeled and more organic foods will be produced not just in California but around the entire
