The Negative Impact Of Animal Testing On Animals

Introduction
It started ever since I was fifth grade. My love for animals grew. Once I entered highschool, my love for makeup grew as well. Ever from the start I knew that a massive amount of cosmetic brands would use animals as test subjects. It was not until now, ever since I looked into the topic that I found out how depressing and how infuriating it is that people would do this to animals to make sure that that the product is safe for us, as humans, to apply and wear. This article is here to seek the following question: How is animal testing impacting the animals along with society.
This topic is important because more than 100 million animals die each year due to animal testing (Peta 2). This includes the animals that are considered to

In the interview I conducted with Anne Berlin, a previous Animal tester who now has paired up with PETA to put a stop to it, she informed me on how “There were vaccines, antibiotics and even some cancer treatments that were found while testing on animals.” She explained how there was a scientist with the name of Alexander Fleming who discovered Penicillin for testing on an animal that initially failed the first time. To think that there possibly would not be antibiotics or vaccine in this world today; and there are here now because of animal testing is ironic. Animal testing, like to what Anne said, also helped to find cures to some types of …show more content…
The reality of it, there are more negative than positive. “ Animals are very different from human beings and therefore make poor test subject” (ProCon.Org2). There are some animals, like the chimpanzee that has a gene makeup that is 99% identical to humans therefore if anything they should be the ones that are getting tested. But because using just monkeys could get more expensive than it already is, they continue to use less expensive animals such as rats or mice. Rats, mice, and rabbits are able to reproduce at a more rapid rate because their gestation period, the amount of time it takes a fetus to fully develop, is shorter than monkeys or other larger

The California Biomedical Research Association addresses that “nearly every medical breakthrough in the last 100 years has resulted directly from research using animals”. Many of the scientific discoveries have saved countless human lives, not to mention the great deal of scientific research available to diabetic humans due to animals. Even vaccines like the Polio vaccine, which has saved 350,000 people from contracting polio, has been tested on animals. Without animal testing, humans wouldn’t be as advanced in the medical field as they are…

However, it is arguable that animal testing has benefited all living species as a whole. Serena Holloway, the author of “Controversy: Animal testing” writes “Animal research has helped produced vaccines for rabies, tetanus, parvo virus, and a multitude of other illnesses in cats, dogs, and other domesticated animals. It can be argued that animal research has improved the health of all living species.” Animal testing has also led to prevent extinction for species “ including the black-footed ferret, the California condor and the tamarins of Brazil.” (Should Animals Be Used for Scientific or Commercial Testing?)…

It will save the government money, save animals and human lives, and it will allow for us to move forward and discover new ways to help fight off diseases and look our best. Another alternative to testing on animals is using human skin leftovers from surgical procedures or donated cadavers can be used as test subjects (Alternatives: Testing Without Torture). This would be a very useful way of testing, because there are so many procedures each day the skin could be donated and used to research the safety of products. Even though there are pros and cons to each way of testing products if it does or does not include animals. I believe that it is best not to use animals in research labs to test vaccinations and other various products because it is inhumane and better overall.…

With America choosing to throw out products tested on animals, the question people must ask themselves is, is animal testing really that bad? Arguing that rats who were born in laboratories and raised to be tested on is wrong, it makes people wonder if it really is bad. Animals are very similar to humans and resemble them outstandingly. With critters slowly becoming a widely talked about source in the world, communities have begun a debate about what side to be on. “My own experience of over 60 years in biomedical research amply demonstrated that without the use of animals and of human beings, it would have been impossible to acquire the important knowledge needed to prevent much suffering and premature death not only among humans but also among [other] animals.” said Albert Sabin, who was a Polish American medical researcher, best known for developing the oral polio vaccine which has played a key role in nearly eradicating the disease.…

Animal testing has been a part of our society since the early 1900s. And it appears to me, that not until around 40 years ago or so, people began to realize that testing animals was inhumane on many different levels. But because we are the human beings that we are, we still try to shy away from a lot of the negative consequences of animal testing. It is easier for us to push aside that which is bad and try only to look at the positive aspects. Yet, in my opinion, the cons outweigh the pros.…

After studying multiple views on animal testing I have come to realize my personal view has now changed since the start of my research. Before undergoing heavy study into animal testing I believed that all types of animal testing should be stopped, but now I believe that the idea is very beneficial and should only be done when the rights of the animal are considered. In the coming years, hopefully, more regulations can be passed to ensure that all animal’s lives are protected during experimentation. Although most animals are treated with care and no pain is dealt to them when undergoing testing, it would be a lie if I stated no animals are harmed during the process. Animal testing is extremely useful in developing life-saving drugs and medicine.…

This argument is totally wrong since animal testing often leads to breakthroughs to animals as well. If we didn 't do animal testing trillions of animals would have died already from many unknown diseases. But by doing animals testing we are saving ourselves and the animals. By testing the animals we could acknowledge them and see what diseases they have and offer an antidote to kill the diseases and making the animals live a long fruitful life. We the people have saved endangered species and put them in habitats where they can reproduce successfully.…
