Because social media is a great and convenient way for people to interact with others, there will often be a heavy celebrity influence. Many celebrities, while they are famous, are not that different from normal people, in that they may have terrible grammar as well; often, they can be negligent, purposely using wrong forms of words, abbreviating unnecessary words for conveniences, and producing incoherent thoughts. When it pertains to many celebrities writing incorrectly, people often choose to look past the traditional rules that govern writing for them. For instance, if a person writes a college essay filled with informal words like “good” and “you” combined with wrong forms of “your,” employers will automatically establish a dismissive opinion. Not only does this affect a person’s status to someone else, but it also reveals how people in society who write like that all for the sake of convenience and speed are lazy. This epitomizes the notion of people constantly preferring to do what is convenient for them rather than doing what is proper even if it is detrimental. Another important effect that results from use of social media is how it impacts a person’s character, since constant exposure to slang and informal writing could render humans unable to differentiate between writing and speaking with informal “textspeak” and with formal and proper grammar. A person’s capability of determining when it is appropriate to write informally, like texting a sibling, and when to write formally, like emailing a professor, reveals his degree of maturity as he can make solid judgement, which is pivotal to have when growing
