Influence by technology, Myopia has emerged in the hearts of man. The American people have developed this mentality of it is all about me. Sayings like “YOLO’ and “Let me take a selfie,” show just how self-absorbed our culture truly is. People care way too much about themselves and their own wants rather than about the needs of others. Lynn Sherr wrote an article that speaks about this sense of entitlement that Americans have developed. They think that they have a right to things and deserve to be treated a certain way in that they perceive themselves as being flawless. It has caused Americans, and people in general, to be lazy and impatient. Fast food uses technology to give people their food ASAP, so they do not have to wait. Fast food, with the help of technology, has made it possible for people to grab food to go at any point and time, without having to wait a few minutes. It has affected the ability for parents to be able to effectively teach and communicate with their children. Technology captivates the hearts and minds of youth; completely captivating their attention and distracting them from the important moments of life. And technology and media are the main sources of influence for teenagers. Technology has become like solitary confinement. It has trapped the hearts and minds of people, and kept them from interacting with others face-to-face. Social media and technology causes depressive thoughts and antisocial behaviors to develop in Americans. It creates this virtual reality that everyone has a more perfect life. It creates jealousy and envy in man’s heart. Everyone is constantly comparing themselves to social media users, as a result of the influence of technology.
