The reaction the children experience is betrayal, confused, and may feel they are to blame for the divorce. In a sense, children don’t want their family to break down, they wish to continue to be a family, and get their parents back to together (Ambert and Anne-Maire 19). In a quantitative assessment, researchers explicated the fear of abandonment, and less accessibility to support children experiencing a great deal of uncertainty about the future, and a bunch of questions arise around sociocultural aspects (Douglas, et.al.146). As parent fights escalate into abuse and other domestic violence in front of their children, they interpreted it as normal behaviour and duplicate in their life. Children are stuck in the middle and are at risk for conflict with their parents and people around them. Later, when the children are adult, their sense of morality has shifted, and psychological behaviour is different from another young adult. The dilemmas children face who experienced divorce in their life will suffer increased chance of poverty, financial distress leading to crime and increase drug use. “35% of all female lone parent families lived in poverty while many more hovered just precarious step above the level (Anne-Marie, pg. 15).” When mother’s divorce, they are more likely to fall into poverty than the male partner. Children commonly reside with the female partner, in return children are more vulnerable and pay the price of living in poverty with financial problems. Children develop a fear of being homeless and not having money to spend with friends and buying goods that they desire. Children suffer from depression and relationship problems from the lack of purchasing power and become young offenders. “When they are older, adults whose parent divorced during childhood and teens years compared to adults from non-divorced families tend to: achieve lower education levels, more likely to be unemployed, martial problems and increase drug usage (Anne-Marie pg16).
