From sending messages through carrier pigeons to writing letters and sending them through mail, we have evolved into the generation of communicating through the internet, through social media. Some people might confuse the term “social networking” with “social media” but really, they are not the same. According to the Oxford Dictionary of English, “social media” is defined as “websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking” while the term “social networking” is defined as “the use of dedicated websites and applications to interact with other users, or to find people with similar interests to one's own”. One of the most common disadvantages of social media is cyberbullying. “Cyberbullying” is defined by the Oxford Dictionary of English as “the use of electronic communication to bully a person, typically by sending messages of an intimidating or threatening nature.” Most social media users are victims of cyberbullying, mainly because there is no effective way to stop the bully as he is blankly doing everything behind a screen. There is only one way to stop cyberbullying and that is by reporting the case. However, most victims are too discouraged to do it due to their lack of self esteem after being victimised by cyberbullying. Another negative effect of social media is that users can be victims of cyberstalking. Cyberstalking can result in harassment. However, this rarely happens nowadays because users have to ability to manage their privacy settings. Other than that, if teens start getting addicted to social media, they might reduce real life interaction with family and friends, disabling them to communicate well face to face. Last but not least, teenage relationships. Boyfriends and girlfriends may feel heartbroken if they find out that their partner is secretly chatting with other people through social
