Sleep Better Sleeping is necessary to function properly during the day and getting little sleep during the night can have detrimental effects on the body. A few examples of negative effects of sleep deprivation are lack of alertness, impaired memory, and lack of performance. These symptoms are just short-term problems, but it can later turn serious if not treated properly. Getting at least 8 hours of sleep is crucial, especially for college students. Possible solutions for getting enough sleep are to reduce cell phone usage at night, develop a sleeping pattern every day, and limiting big meals and midnight snacks.
To begin with, college students always use their cellphones at night to relieve stress and have fun, but it has an adverse effect on their bodies. In our current generation, cell phone activity is rampant among college students. For example, an average college student would be texting their friends or using mobile apps late at night which can result in being tired the next day. When college students reduce their usage of their cellphones they’ll be able to sleep better at night and won’t be distracted. Further, as college students who use their cell phones less they’re able to reduce the amount of “blue light” they’re receiving. According to Harvard Health Publications, “blue wavelengths—which are beneficial during daylight hours because they boost attention, reaction times, and mood—seem to be the most disruptive at night”.
