Firstly, the lyrics are a bad influence on young adults. Often lyrics used in popular music consist of foul language, and this promotes the idea that using foul language is appropriate and acceptable in popular music. As popular music contributes to a big part of our society today, nonetheless, we often hear swear words in music, makes the illusions that it seems okay to integrate swear words in songs. According to billboard, one of the top hits consists of Big Sean’s “I Don’t Fuck With You,” (Billboard, 2015) and the lyrics in this song states, “I don’t fuck with you. You little stupid ass bitch, I ain’t fuckin’ with you” (Metrolyrics, 2015). Throughout the whole song, it continues with paragraphs of the same lines, thus expressing in such an ugly manner to show the feelings of oneself. This song is one of the top hits in 2015, many consumers, including young adults, have most definitely heard of this song. Since popular music is played everywhere, and that many are likely to sing along with the songs, having foul language in songs can make consumers, especially young adults, to be able to listen to these songs all the time.
