1. Dealing with Depression The blood rushing through your veins. The music pounding in your ears. The joy of finally going to a concert. This is the moment you have been waiting for. These are the joys in life some people never, or rarely, have. But, they are able to get some joy through music. For me, this topic hits really close to home. I have suffered from depression and music and bands have helped tremendously. One of the things they were able to conclude it helps with is bringing people closer to their families and friends, Celly also stated this in her interview. That is two things for music therapy. This is a scary thought because depression makes people withdraw themselves from the world and many people do not realize this happened until it is too late. If you keep searching and trying new methods, things will pan out and get better. I want people to know there will always be something to help them and to never stop trying. If you give up the possibility of it getting better goes away.
Of the two things I was hoping to find out at the beginning, I only found one. The type of music does not affect a person more or less. It is all personal preference and what the one going through music therapy likes. The research does not have much on serotonin levels yet – I assume because not much research has been done in this field.
If only one thing is taken away from this, I want to to be to never make fun of anyone because you never truly know what they’re going through. People should go out of their way to make someone’s day a little bit better. I know what it is like and I know how hard it can be to cope when the thing you love most is taken from you. People never know what others are really going through – and you never know what type of things might help them stay on their
