Plato, an ancient philosopher, once said, “Only the dead have seen the end of war.” Men have gone to war for centuries for property, for with property comes power. Imperialism, the extension of a country's power and property through conquering other lands, has brought the world into a state of constant war for power. It is evident that imperialism has had a negative effect on the course on history just by looking at the amounts of war the world has experienced. The Opium Wars and both World Wars one and two were all results of imperialism. Imperialism has done nothing but result in bloodshed, sorrow, and war.

This war was a war between the United Kingdom and China and it was a brutal fight for power and expansion. The United Kingdom and China had an ongoing trade of money, provided by the United Kingdom, for Silk, provided by China. Eventually, the United Kingdom began to run out of money to buy silk and replaced money for opium, which they got from Afghanistan, in the trade. After some time, the Chinese began to realize that opium was bad and many of the chinese people developed an addiction to it. This realization resulted in the banning of opium in China, which angered the British. Thus began The Opium Wars. The first, and second war was won by the United Kingdom. This victory gained a ‘sphere of influence’ for the United Kingdom in China, which meant that the British were enabled to enter China with no questions asked and were allowed to trade freely. This
