Over the years homework continues to be a major controversial issue throughout schools. Homework impacts students both in positive and negative ways. Being bombarded with hours of homework takes away most of the time students need to live a healthy teenage life. Even though it has been proven that homework helps improve grades it also wears away at the motivation and patience the students have to do it. It definitely is negatively impacting high schoolers, causing them to be more stressed out then they already are. It has been proven that schoolwork and homework is the leading cause of stress in students. In the long run students are still given enough work to keep the topics fresh in their brains, they could also get it done on their own time or whenever it is easiest for them to complete. If a student doesn’t manage their time well enough then he/she would pay the price. This method would also teach students fantastic time management skills. Unfortunately the older the student the more homework gets assigned. Of course when more responsibilities come into play students get more to work on, making the work that should be semi enjoyable, not so much anymore. Students find homework boring and pointless and give up when they are not motivated enough. Stated in Strauss’s article about homework, “Also, no relationship was found between the time spent on homework and how much the student enjoyed it. The research quoted students as saying they often do homework they see as “pointless” or “mindless” in order to keep their grades up.” If students had more motivation as well as wiggle room to complete each assignment schools might have more motivated
