The process of burning fossil fuels releases …show more content…
The burning of gasoline releases CO2 into the atmosphere, much like the burning of fossil fuel. All of that CO2 just sits in our air, effecting us, and our planet. Degelman says that our atmosphere is also being effected by other chemicals, such as methane, and nitrous oxide. This is where a large majority of scientists believe that the greenhouse effect started. All of the mass amounts of CO2 in the air act like a wall and doesn’t let all of the dangerous gases out. Smith says that “There is evidence of increasing global temperatures and increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations” (Smith). This also effects the sea levels, science now confirms that large masses of ice in the artic, and in Greenland are melting and filling the ocean. Land masses are slowly being reduced. Oguz describes it like this, “Global warming leads to warmer temperatures, which cause water to expand. When water expands in the ocean with warmer temperatures, it takes up more space, and the level of the sea rises. Warmer temperatures also cause mountain glaciers, small ice caps, and parts of larger ice sheets to melt, adding more water to the ocean”
