Breakfast Effects Although 24 hours still pass by each day, life seems to have gotten busier for the majority of people in the past decades. With each day bearing more responsibilities, many Americans are cutting time by rushing out the door in the morning without a breakfast to start off their day. Specifically, nearly 31 million Americans, close to 10 percent of the U.S. population, skip breakfast each morning. Additionally, the Morning Meal Scape 2011 survey found that men ages 18-34 were most likely to skip breakfast while women over the age of 55 were most likely to enjoy the early morning meal (“31 Million Americans…”). Explanations for skipping vary from person to person, with some people noting the lack of time and others the …show more content…
Breakfast-skippers miss out on the beneficial effects of eating the early meal, including lowered risk of disease, increased energy and concentration, and quicker metabolism. One important effect to note when analyzing the value of breakfast is the reduced risk of disease found in regular-breakfast eaters. As the number of people affected by preventable diseases continues to increase, it is necessary to determine some of the influential factors that lead to these deadly diseases. These reasons include an absence of available time, resources, and hunger. However, the effects of eating breakfast easily outweigh the causes of skipping breakfast. Because preventable diseases continue to cause major problems within society, it only makes sense that all people begin to understand the preventative effects of a good morning meal. Additionally, productivity in both schools and workplaces would increase if all students and employees ate a breakfast prior to the start of the day. While some people may believe eating breakfast results in weight gain, the actuality of the matter is that an early meal acts as a metabolism catalyst and reduces the chance of weight gain.
