“Get people back into the kitchen and combat the trend toward processed food and fast food” (Weil). Are processed foods and fast food the general leading cause of obesity and diabetes? Obesity is having excess of body fat; which has negative effects on a person’s health and body. Whereas diabetes is a condition where the amount of glucose in the blood is too high, because of the insulin being produced is not enough or when the body is not reacting to it. Moreover processed food is mixture of ingredients with adding’s of chemicals; chemicals in that are known to have consequences on our health. Can it be the taste or the appearance? Important to realize many of processed foods have high salts mixed with sugars making the food have a great taste; salts and sugars are two ingredients our body’s will hardly ever deny. Salts can to lead to dehydration. Sometimes your body can confuse thirst for hunger causing the people to buy more food instead of drinking fluids. Scientist from Yale University discovered “That excess refined and processed salts may be one of the environmental factors driving the increase incidence of autoimmune diseases.” They also blame junk food for all the effects. High salts are known to cause high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, heart strokes, and high cholesterol. Doctors do not recommend high salts in our foods, because they can induce disease to our bodies. Sugar is a type of carbohydrate that gives the body energy, which are broken down to glucose. Sugars are sweeteners added to food; they change the taste in foods leaving a pleasant taste on the taste buds. That is why processed foods have great taste, causing people to keep buy. Caitlin Rose wrote “American manufacturers pump their food full of sugar, salt, hydrogenated oils, saturated fats, preservatives, dyes, artificial flavors, and a host of bizarre, unpronounceable chemicals that, if you saw them in their pre-processed state, you would never consider putting in your mouth.” Processed foods are highly alternated …show more content…
Whole foods are unprocessed or unrefined foods, which are usually found at its natural state or are refines as little as possible but for safety benefits. Whole foods contain all the natural minerals and vitamins processed foods do not. Definitely they also have the four main things our body need which are: water, carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. These foods are recommended to lower any health issues with the help of exercising. There is also much variety in whole foods, most foods that are processed start off by whole foods. Whole foods are known to better a person’s health unlike processed foods they lead you to chronic diseases. People are not aware of all the health problems they are proponed to because of processed foods. As can be seen the government is not helping by informing us because of economy factors. We should be more aware of what we’re eating and how much we’re consuming. Processed foods are not cheaper than whole foods; they are made to produce a large amount of income with health issues if not eaten correctly.
