Every child in the world deserves to be treated and taught with respect. Corporal punishment has been used for centuries, but throughout time government has set laws to protect kids whose parents get out of control. In today’s world there is a big controversy, should corporal punishment be labeled abuse and illegal. The definition of abuse being, “to use wrongly or improperly; misuse, to abuse one 's authority, to treat in a harmful, injurious, or offensive way, to abuse one 's eyesight to speak insultingly, harshly, and unjustly to or about; revile; malign” (Agnes). Where the definition of corporal punishment is, “the physical punishment, as spanking, inflicted on a child by an adult in authority” (Agnes). Corporal punishment should be illegal

Although many studies done on corporal punishment show a variety of negative effects there are some positives that come out of it. Recent studies show positive to short-term results when it comes to corporal punishment, but also shows that the most effective methods do not include corporal punishment. A few families are blessed with positive feedback from their kids. Frequently hit children can sometimes become more docile than children who are not hit. Parents who use corporal punishment and receive positive feedback normally use it in a calm teaching state of mind, and have patience with the kid. Parents who only use hands on when absolutely needed will demonstrate to their kids that they have time to fix a mistake before receiving a spanking. This can help children to understand how to respect others and learn discipline at the same time. There can be short term positive effects and it may seem the child had eliminated that behavior, but they really fear the blow so they avoid that behavior only around the punisher. It has been proven that children who have received corporal punishment mature faster because they have been taught to behave and never purposely do anything wrong. It is also said corporal punishment can make us grow up to be responsible citizens because they know how to be responsible and respectful people.
