What Are The Pros And Cons Of Lowering The Drinking Age

The Drinking Age of Eighteen In the prohibition era, the MLDA, minimum legal drinking age, was set to twenty-one voluntarily in forty states. However, between the 1960s and 1970s, some states reduced their drinking age due to the new voting age and military enlistment (“MADD”). Many of the members of the society have contemplated on the issue of reducing the current drinking age of twenty-one to eighteen. This idea has been a controversial idea for years. The participants of this society have been debating on the pros and cons to make a final decision on the drinking age. A majority of the issues that are argued include the health and safety of the young adults. There are various outcomes that can benefit the society or hurt the society on the controversial topic of lowering the minimum drinking age. There are very many positive outcomes to lowering the drinking age from twenty-one to eighteen. Although there are many positive outcomes, there are three that stand out. Some positive outcomes are that it would allow young adults to feel like young adults, it would provide a more safe environments for young adults, and decrease the large amount of false identification cards in the Unites States. Some negative outcomes are the negative effects alcohol can have to a young adult’s brain, the increased number of intoxicated drivers on the roads, and the angered citizens if the age limit was reduced. There are many pros and cons to lowering the drinking age. I personally think that in this case, the pros outweigh the cons. The way I see this issue is that if someone is able to vote, smoke, get married, and join the military, someone at the age of eighteen should be able to
