Many people talk about how guns are dangerous and guns kill people and how guns should ban them or put very strict laws out. As it was said earlier guns actually save lots of people. Not just that, guns also reduce and keep crime rates low. In 1997 handguns were banned but instead of the crime rates going down they rose 340% from 1998 to 2005 (Ferrara). There were 31 states that passed a right-to-carry law since the mid-1800s and since then crimes rates dropped. Murders dropped 7.65%, rapes by 5.2%, aggravated assaults by 7%, and robberies by 3%. With states that have a strict gun control, crime rates rose on average 127% (Schlafly). Murder rates increased by 5 times the normal amount when Ireland banned all handguns and rifles in 1972.
