The words uttered so often by students in the classroom. A curious student wondering if they actually need to take notes. But why should the student only care to learn what is on the test. Isn’t the whole point of education to learn? What has our education system become if students no longer care to learn for the sake of learning?
You might say that students must take tests in order to see where there are. But even with this, why do all student take the same test. Albert Einstein said, “Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” No two students are the same, so why every student take the same test. Programs such as common core and no child left behind have caused students who may learn in different way to be left behind.
One of the worst offenders of this is standardized tests. Studies done by US News and the Washington Post show that standardized tests don’t help students learn. A study done by the New York Times even showed that the use of Standardized tests can hurt education of students. Because of pressure to improve student’s test teachers begin to teach directly to the test.

We need to train our students to be the best in the world. To start, homework in elementary school needs to be eliminated. Next, standardized tests rely on the fact that everyone learns the same which is absurd in and of itself. By the time a Finnish student graduates secondary school, they will have taken just one standardized test compared to the countless an American student takes. We should get rid of the majority of them and keep the bare minimum to make sure students are on track.
