In many churches across this country they will sing a song of praise which asks the Holy Spirit to come and fill this place. The question one needs to answer is why do people see the need to be filled by the Holy Spirit? Romans 8:5-7 tells us, “Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.” The Holy Spirit is necessary for God to operate in our lives because I see the Holy Spirit as a deliver.
The book of Romans was written to bring unity among the people. During this time there were disagreements between the Jews and the Non-Jews. It enables us to move away from the familiar and sets us apart for ministry. We are sanctified through the Holy Spirit. When this happens it enables us to stand up against any temptation which comes our way. Basil says there is no sanctification without the Holy Spirit. Jesus was able to overcome all temptations from the devil in the wilderness because the scripture tells us Jesus was not only full of the Holy Spirit but was led by the spirit into the wilderness. When the Spirit is at work in our lives it delivers us away from the things which are displeasing to God and it allows others to see the fruit in our lives. The scripture tells us when Jesus left the wilderness he was filled with the spirit and a report about him began to spread to the surrounding countries. It is only the work of the spirit that will bare evidence to others that you are led by the spirit. The Holy Spirit reaffirms that God is present in our lives no matter what storms we find ourselves
