People are always discussing on what they want and what they need. They get these two confused by convincing themselves that they need what they want. It is in human nature to have a lot of wants. In general, when people do not get what they want, due to the way they thought it was essential, they are put into a state of mind where they feel of being deprived of needs.
People base their wants on what everyone else wants. We have a mindset to think it so people can fit in socially. Let us think of a homeless man. He does not have a social life because people put him below themselves because he does not have nice shoes or a clean shirt. Wants are not essential. You do not need to have the newest Iphone. “She suffered constantly, feeling that all the attributes of a gracious life, every luxury, should rightly have been hers” (Page 373). Guy de Maupassant wrote that it caused her pain. “She had no proper wardrobe, no jewels, nothing. And those were the things that she loved-she felt she was made for them” (Page 374). Not only did she say she was not rich, she also was greedy when it came to money. “Listen, Mathilde, how much would an evening dress cost---a suitable one that you could wear again on other occasions, something very simple?” She replied, “It is hard to say exactly but I think I could manage with 400 francs” (Page 375). 400 francs is $409 in US dollars. She got the dress but was troubled that she did not have a piece of jewelry to wear. “I hate not having a single jewel, not one stone, to wear. I shall look so dowdy. I would almost rather not go to the party” (Page 375), Maupassant wrote. She borrowed a necklace from her friend that was a diamond necklace. She wanted to be the center
